Week 9 is here and boy is it a doozy. Rose City will be facing the ever-strong Alamo City Battle in the Match of the Week. But how strong are they really? They're coming off of a two game losing streak which is sure to give them a reason to fight. But how hard a fight will the team give without the steady presence of captain Thierry Henry? In any case, the Flyers look to make Henry's absence a moot point this weekend.
Mauro Rosales got almost an hour of playing time last week and should be up for a more complete performance than that this time around. Bill Hamid is in fine shape, but continues to warm the bench as Joe Willis does all the work in DC. Still, this is a club that's in better shape than it has been in several weeks.

Hhhmmmm not sure why the email response didn't work. I apologize. Here's what I'd typed out in response:
ReplyDeleteI follow a few simple rules when filling out my lineup each week in order to try and keep myself from getting in my own way.
1 - Is the player hot ? That doesn't just mean is he scoring. How is he playing ? If he's playing well but just hasn't found the score board I'm likely to play him over someone that has looked like trash for a few matches but managed to find the net once or lucked into an assist. Players that are playing well are more likely to produce, regardless of what the numbers might say.
2 - Match ups. Some teams concede goals more than others. Some formations and styles work better against others. Sometimes this can be the key in a toss up between who to start.
3 - What's going on with the player ? Is the manager tinkering with the lineup ? Are injuries to other players going to impact his performance in a big way ? What about suspensions for him, his team, or the opposition ?
I've got another tidbit or two I stick with but these 3 things are the big picture type things I look at first and foremost when making my lineup.
